Adult females feed on the blood of humans and animals.Males are harmless. Breeds in usually still water.

Female lays her eggs singly or in batches according to species. Eggs float on water surfaces and hatches in few days. Aquatic larvae must come to surface to breathe air. Feeds on minute plants debris.

Can bite and cause irritation. They can carry diseases.
