| They only attack when threatened. While the new queens are pupating a proportion of workers prepare to leave the nest as a swarm. To form a new colony elsewhere the swarm appears as a large cloud of bees which often settles on a tree or a shrub. Contact bee keeper to collect the swarms. Only consider killing bees as a last resort. |

Social insect forming complex colonies can survive for several years and over winter using stored honey as food. The female bee can lay up to 2000 eggs per day and can live up to seven years. But their most efficient life span is about three years. Worker bees live for about 6-7 weeks.
