Cluster fly: Adults live harmlessly outdoors in summer but may enter buildings (usually roof spaces and lofts) in autumn to hibernate. Egg laid in damp soil, rotten vegetation by the female. Hatches within a week, soon after emergence seeks out parasite earth worms which are eventually killed. Pupae in soil. Adults are a severe nuisance if a large number enter inhabited parts of buildings. |

Common house fly: |

Fruit fly: Fruit fly attracted to fresh fruit and vegetable because of the fermenting yeast. They are not only attracted to decaying food but also fermenting liquids such as sour milk, beer, wine.

Blow fly: Blow flies breed in carcasses, meat and meat products. They will also use animal excrement and decaying vegetation. Blow flies are potentially disease carriers because of their feeding habits and they are pests of meat industry and slaughter houses and may breed on dead rodents, birds within buildings. Female lays up to 180 whitish eggs in batches on carcasses on meat. Hatches into maggots within 1-2 days. Adults are very strong flyers and have a range of between 5-25 miles. |
